Description
The neuwied´s hognose snake is a small, non-venomous snake native to South America. When threatened by predators or humans, it deforms its head into a triangle shape, imitating a viper. However, it’s harmless to humans. It feeds exclusively on frogs. The False lancehead hunts during the day and it usually hides on the ground under the leaves.

Diet
Neuwied´s hognose snake is a carnivorous reptile with a strong preference for amphibians and invertebrates. It primarily feeds on frogs and insects, and occasionally partakes in small fish and mammals, demonstrating a diverse diet.
Appearance
Neuwied´s hognose snake is a moderate-sized snake with a slender body and a tapering tail. Its scaly skin is smooth and glossy in appearance. The predominant coloration is mottled grey or dull brown, often with irregular black cloud-like patterns along its back. The belly is typically yellowish or cream-colored. Males and females generally look alike, with subtle variance in size.
Behavior
Neuwied´s hognose snake has distinctive solitary behaviors, relying on cryptic patterns of its skin to blend into its habitat. It's primarily a nocturnal species that spends days under logs or foliage. This animal displays a docile nature unless threatened, at which point it produces a hissing noise and engages in mimicry, pretending to be dangerous snakes from its territory.
