Diet

Water monitor's diet is primarily comprised of insects, crustaceans, and small vertebrates. However, it shows an occasional inclination for fruit, mollusks, and even carrion, displaying its diverse, opportunistic feeding habits.

Appearance

Water monitor is a large monitor lizard with a robust body, sturdy limbs, and a lengthy, powerful tail. The lizard's scales are smooth, heavy, and water-resistant, displaying a dark coloration typically seen as black or dark green. This hue is interspersed with irregular golden-yellow spots that form bands across the body and tail. Juveniles often have brighter and more distinct patterns and are comparatively smaller than the daunting size displayed by mature adults.

Behavior

Water monitor is a solitary species, engaging in solitary foraging during the day and night. Impressively adaptable to the aquatic environment, they regularly bask and swim. Male water monitor are territorial, often engaging in combat to protect their zones. They also display unique 'gaping' behaviour, opening their mouths widely to ward off threats.
