The yellow monitor or golden monitor, Varanus flavescens, is a species of monitor lizard found in Asia. It is also called Sun Gohoro (in Nepali). It is also known as SANGOIH (सनà¤à¥à¤¹à¤¿) in Maithili.

Yellow monitor subsists primarily on a carnivorous diet. The species' predilection for smaller vertebrates like birds, reptiles, and rodents makes these its most consumed food. Occasionally, yellow monitor is seen consuming invertebrates and even carrion, displaying opportunistic feeding habits.
Appearance
Yellow monitor is a large and sturdy monitor lizard with a torpedo-shaped body draped in rough, scaly skin. They possess a long and strong tail complementing their overall length. Highlighted by a dull yellow to a crisp golden hue, their skin is patterned with dark, irregular stripes and ocelli. Noteworthy is the absence of any significant visual difference between sexes, age groups, or subspecies.
Behavior
Yellow monitor displays solitary tendencies, only interacting during the mating period. It is diurnal, predominantly active in the morning and exhibits basking behavior. The species is carnivorous, preying on small mammals and birds mainly. Yellow monitor uses tongue flicking for chemical sensing and has territorial behaviors, particularly males during the mating season.
