  The red-tailed knobby newt or Kweichow (crocodile) newt (Tylototriton kweichowensis) is a species of salamander in the Salamandridae family. It is found in western Guizhou ("Kweichow" being an old spelling of Guizhou) and north-eastern Yunnan, China. It is most closely related to emperor newt (Tylototriton shanjing) and Himalayan newt (T. verrucosus).

 Red-tailed knobby newt's diet primarily consists of small invertebrates, notably various species of insects. They also exhibit a preference for arachnids, mollusks, and crustaceans, aiding their requirement for protein-rich food. 
   Appearance
 Red-tailed knobby newt is a small to medium-sized newt, displaying a robust and wriggled body with rough, granulose skin. Its prominent features include its bony ridges on a triangular head, and its vivid orange to red vertebral ridge stretching from head to tail. The main body coloration is black to dark brown. Note that males have an inflated tail end during the mating season, distinguishing them from females. 
   Behavior
 Red-tailed knobby newt is an amphibian known for its nocturnal lifestyle, primarily spending daytime hours concealed in damp, forested environments. It displays a solitary nature except during the breeding season when males become territorial. For defense, it raises its dorsal crest and secretes a mildly toxic skin substance.
