Description
Tropidolaemus wagleri is a venomous pitviper species native to South-East Asia. No subspecies are currently recognized. It is sometimes referred to as the temple viper because of its abundance around the Temple of the Azure Cloud in Malaysia.

Appearance

Male and females look similar, but juveniles display a more vivid contrast in their patterns.
Behavior
Wagler's pit viper is a nocturnal, arboreal viper known for its solitary behavior outside mating season. It exhibits distinctive predator avoidance strategy by exhibiting tail vibration or death-feigning. This species is also territorial, often found in the same tree for multiple days, defending their position if challenged. Males engage in combative display during mating season, asserting dominance to attract females.
