   Diet
Northern crested newt is primarily an insectivore, feasting on a variety of aquatic invertebrates. The adult species sustain on invertebrates like snails, worms, insect larvae, and crustaceans, while the larvae feed extensively on zooplankton.
   Appearance
Northern crested newt is a relatively large species of newt. Its skin is smooth yet textured with vivid markings. This aquatic creature boasts a prominent, jagged dorsal crest, especially noticeable in males during breeding season. Adults generally exhibit a dark-brown to black body colouration with unique blue-white spots. Females and juveniles are smoother and lesser-crested, with a more subdued colour pattern.
   Behavior
Northern crested newt is predominantly a nocturnal species with mating commencing after hibernation. Their courtship ritual is peculiar, involving a dance where the male deposits its spermatophore for the female to pick up. They exhibit territorial behavior, often defending their mating area. Northern crested newt is an aquatic species during breeding season but leads a terrestrial life otherwise.
