Appearance

Yucatán casque-headed tree frog is a medium to large-sized frog with smooth skin and a stout, triangular body. Its dominant color is green, often with yellow or brown patches, and it bears a distinctive serrated crest running from behind each eye to its rear. No significant visual differences exist between genders or ages. Its distinctive feature is the broad, flat protuberance, like a sombrero, on its head, which is believed to direct rainwater to its mouth.

Behavior

Yucatán casque-headed tree frog is a diurnal species predominantly solitary except during the breeding season. Known for its distinct head-bobbing and leg-lifting behaviors during courtship, it also exhibits arboreal foraging habits.
