Description
Trimeresurus rubeus is a venomous pit viper species endemic to Southeast Asia. No subspecies are currently recognized. This species was discovered in the surrounding area of Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh city, across the low hills of southern Vietnam including Cat Tien National Park, in the Langbian Plateau area and in eastern Cambodia by researchers at Bangor University.

Ruby-eyed green pitviper primarily feeds on small vertebrates, mainly rodents and lizards. Its venom immobilizes prey before consuming whole. They are nocturnal hunters and primarily arboreal, allowing exploration of diverse food sources.
Appearance
Ruby-eyed green pitviper is a medium-sized snake with a slender body covered in rough scales. Predominantly red to reddish-brown, its skin is punctuated by a series of narrow, white to cream crossbars. Unique features include its arrow-shaped head and long tail. There are no marked differences in appearance due to age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Ruby-eyed green pitviper is a nocturnal, solitary and oviparous creature known for its secretive habits. Their predatory behavior includes striking rapidly at their prey and delivering venom through fangs. Territorial boundaries are typically maintained through body displays and bites, if necessary. Remarkably, ruby-eyed green pitviper is able to adjust its hunting strategy according to prey size and availability, illustrating a particularly adaptive nature.
