General Info
Lifespan
20-30 years
Diet
Capped langur primarily subsists on leaves. Its consumption extends to flowers, fruits, and seeds when available, reinforcing its role as a selective dietary generalist in forest ecosystems.
Appearance
Capped langur is a medium-sized primate with a slender, elongated body covered in dense fur. Its coat is predominantly silver-gray with a striking white cap that separates it from other species. The species has an exceedingly long and speckled tail, accounting for about two-thirds of its total body length. Males usually sport a vibrant yellowish patch on the cheeks. Females also have a white cap but are slightly smaller in size.
Behavior
Capped langur are arboreal primates, known for diurnal foraging, typically feeding on leaves, fruits and flowers. They display strong social dynamics, living in groups with a dominant male. Notably, capped langur have an extensive vocal repertoire, used for territory defense and communication. Adolescents learn these vocalizations by observing adults, demonstrating a cultural transmission of knowledge within the species.
