Diet
Dusky leaf monkey or Dusky Leaf Monkey sustains primarily on leaves, favoring young leaves and buds, making them specialist folivores. Additionally, it supplements its diet with fruit, flowers, seeds, and even insects occasionally.
Appearance
Dusky leaf monkey is a medium-sized primate with a slender body cloaked by a dense coat of dark fur. This fur can range from completely black to grey, and there are usually lighter patches around the eyes and mouth. It also possesses a noticeable crest of hair on the top of its head. Notably, males and females look alike, apart from males having larger canine teeth. Another distinctive attribute is the long, non-prehensile tail, which is often longer than the body.
Behavior
Dusky leaf monkey, or 'Dusky Langur', is a diurnal and arboreal primate renowned for its acrobats in the canopy. This social species lives in groups of 5-20, typically led by a single male. Dusky leaf monkey spends a significant portion of the day feeding on leaves, fruits, and flowers. Remarkably, juveniles exhibit distinctively bright orange color, serving as a 'visual flag' to facilitate group cohesion.
