East javan langur primarily thrives on a diet abundant in leaves, particularly young, tender leaves. This species also supplements its diet with fruits, flowers, seeds, and sometimes insects, demonstrating a specific preference for certain forest tree species.
Appearance
East javan langur is a medium-sized primate, known for its long, agile body and thick fur. The fur's dominant coloration is silvery-grey, with darker grey in the limbs and paler shades on the underparts. Males possess distinctive, yellowish-white cheek patches. The species has a long tail for balance and mobility while navigating through treetops. Juveniles are slightly paler than adults but gradually acquire adult coloration as they mature.
Behavior
East javan langur lives predominantly in the forest canopy, engaged in moments of rest, grooming, and consuming leaves and fruits. As a social creature, east javan langur resides in complex, multi-male groups with hierarchical structures, often grooming each other to reinforce social bonds. Highly territorial, they will protect their territory with loud vocalizations and displays.
