Diet

African striped skink, commonly known as the Striped Skink, is primarily an omnivore. Its diet includes a wide variety of insects, spiders, and small invertebrates. Additionally, it consumes plant-based foods like seeds, fruit, and leaves.

Appearance

African striped skink is a medium-sized skink with an elongated, slender body and smooth, shiny scales. Primarily ash grey, it displays thin, darker longitudinal stripes that run from its head to the base of its tail. An orange to red colouration may be found on its throat and belly. Emerging from its streamlined body is a long tapering tail which could exceed its body length.

Behavior

African striped skink is a diurnal reptile, known for its basking activities, used for thermal regulation. Largely solitary, these skinks mark territory via chemical signals from their glands. They employ a freeze strategy when perceived by predators, using their striped skin as camouflage against the foliage. During foraging, african striped skink exhibit remarkable agility climbing trees and are known to consume a variety of arthropods.
