Diet
African five-lined skink is a primarily insectivorous species, feeding extensively on beetles and ants. However, its diet also includes other arthropods, molluscs, and occasionally plant matter, thus displaying opportunistic feeding adaptations.
Appearance
African five-lined skink is a medium-sized skink with a streamlined body covered in smooth, glistening scales. It exhibits a noteworthy five-striped pattern along its olive-brown body, with two lateral stripes on either side of a vertebral stripe. The tail is long and slender, tapering to a pointed tip. Individuals of both genders share a similar appearance without noticeable variations.
Behavior
Primarily terrestrial, african five-lined skink is a swift, agile species, active during daylight hours. It's omnivorous, foraging for food like insects, plant matter, and even small vertebrates. Frequently spotted basking in sunlit spots, it's ordinarily solitary except during mating season when male-to-male contests for mates are observed. Lifespan is dependent on environmental factors and predators include birds, snakes, and mongooses.
