Description
The Porto Alegre golden-eyed tree frog (Trachycephalus mesophaeus) is a species of frog in the family Hylidae endemic to Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, freshwater marshes, and intermittent freshwater marshes. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Porto alegre golden-eyed tree frog is predominantly insectivorous, its diet composed largely of small invertebrates, particularly different types of orthopterans such as grasshoppers and crickets. It, however, occasionally preys on smaller amphibians and reptiles.
Appearance
Porto alegre golden-eyed tree frog is a sizeable tree frog with smooth, vibrant, green skin, giving it excellent camouflage in its arboreal habitat. The underside is pale yellow. Its defining features include large, bulging eyes, a wide mouth, and specially adapted pads on its fingers and toes aiding in climbing. The species exhibits no notable differences in appearance between age groups, genders, or subspecies.
Behavior
Porto alegre golden-eyed tree frog is a nocturnally active species and exhibits arboreal tendencies, spending most of its time in trees. It is known for an unique mating ritual, with males vocalizing complex mating calls. Like most of its kind, it's a solitary creature, demonstrating territorial behavior by occupying and defending distinct home ranges.
