Description
The ornate slider (Trachemys ornata) is turtle belonging to the Trachemys genus of the family Emydidae. It is found in Guerrero, Jalisco, Nayarit and Sinaloa in western Mexico.

Appearance
Ornate slider is a medium-sized aquatic turtle with an oval shaped, slightly keeled shell that can range from light to dark green. Specific to the species are intricate yellow to orange markings on the shell, skin, and head. Their undersides are cream-colored with a distinctive pattern that resembles a maze. No significant differences exist between males and females or across different age groups.
Behavior
Ornate slider is a largely solitary, semi-aquatic species known for its basking behavior. They devote significant daytime hours to sun-basking on logs or stones. These turtles display territorial behavior, marking their territory with scent deposits. Foraging primarily occurs at night, with a diet consisting of aquatic vegetation, insects, and small fish.
