The mahogany tree frog (Tlalocohyla loquax) is a species of frog in the family Hylidae found in Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marshes, pastureland, rural gardens, and heavily degraded former forests. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Appearance

Mahogany tree frog is a nocturnal tree frog, known for its distinctive call. The species exhibits solitary behavior, only congregating during mating season. Territorial males vocalize to lure females and ward off rival males, securing canopy areas near water sources. Predominantly insectivorous, mahogany tree frog hunts at night, using its adapted visual acuity to detect movement.
