Description
Tiliqua rugosa is a short-tailed, slow moving species of blue-tongued skink found in Australia. Three of the four recognised subspecies are found only in Western Australia, where they are known collectively by the common name bobtail. The name shingleback is also used, especially for T. rugosa asper, the only subspecies native to eastern Australia.

Diet
Bobtail is mainly herbivorous, feeding primarily on native fruits and flowers. Yet, it exhibits an opportunistic omnivory, consuming small animals such as insects and vertebrates, highlighting its adaptable diet.
Appearance
The bobtail is a robust, short-legged lizard with a bluish, bumpy skin. Adults typically reach around 40 centimeters in length, including their stubby tail. Their skin texture resembles that of a pinecone, even more so when they inflate their body as a defense mechanism. Distinct coloration varies, blending with its habitat, from sandy yellow to dark brown. Males and females present no discernable differences in appearance.
Behavior
Bobtail displays a distinct diurnal pattern, foraging and basking in the sun during the day, while resting at night. Notably, bobtail utilises its blue tongue as a threat display to ward off predators. Considered a solitary species, it exudes secretion from its glands to mark territory. It has the unique feature of giving birth to live young rather than laying eggs.
