General Info
Lifespan
6-8 years
Diet
Tasmanian pademelon primarily feeds on native foliage, ferns, and grasses. The diet richness is a reflection of the local flora diversity, as this species selects its feed based on seasonality and nutrient content. Besides, fallen eucalypti leaves can supplement its diet.
Appearance
Tasmanian pademelon is a small marsupial with a slim, athletic body covered in soft, dense fur that varies in color from pale greyish-brown to dark chocolate. It features black stripes extending from the lower back to the base of a fairly long, bushy tail. The underside is often creamy-white and its pointed face has round, black eyes. Males are generally larger than females, but other than size, there are no significant differences between genders.
Behavior
Tasmanian pademelon is predominantly nocturnal, foraging and feeding on foliage, fruit, and roots. This marsupial is solitary, marking its territory with scent glands and aggressive displays during mating. Its characteristic bounding and leaping motion provide agility in its forest habitats.
