   Appearance
 Maritime garter snake is a medium-sized snake with a slender, elongated body. Its skin is covered by smooth scales that display a pale, whitish coloration interspersed with light gray or tan bars. The darkest bars often form a checkered pattern along its back. It lacks feathers, fur, or appendages, having only a thin, pointed tail. The species flaunts characteristic stripes running longitudinally from head to tail. Shows no significant sexual dimorphism or age-related changes in appearance. 
   Behavior
 Maritime garter snake is a largely solitary creature with diurnal tendencies, often seen in open habitats near water bodies. It displays distinctive vibratory behavior when perturbed, with females exhibiting this less often compared to males. Particular to this species, it employs a form of chemical mimicry for predator avoidance, with its skin secretions resembling that of toxic toads.
