Diet
Greek tortoise primarily embraces a herbivorous diet, favoring leafy greens, fruits, and flowers. A significant part of its food intake consists of dandelions, clovers, leafy salads, and fruits such as apples and pears, along with occasional consumption of invertebrates.
Appearance
Greek tortoise is a robust, medium-sized tortoise with a rounded, slightly domed shell that features a variable pattern of dark blotches on a yellowish background. These reptiles exhibit sexual dimorphism, with females being larger than males. The skin has a rough texture and the same coloration as the shell, blending seamlessly with their natural surroundings.
Behavior
Greek tortoise is predominantly herbivorous, foraging for broad-leaved plants and flowers. This solitary species is characterized by its nomadic existence, moving within large home ranges rather than defending a specific territory. Greek tortoise often burrows or uses abandoned fox lairs for shelter, hibernating during colder months to conserve energy.
