Description
Teratoscincus scincus is a species of gecko commonly referred to as the common wonder gecko or the frog-eyed gecko. It is native to arid parts of Asia and has special adaptations which suit it to desert life.
General Info
Lifespan
5-10 years
Diet
Common wonder gecko predominantly feeds on hard-shelled prey like beetles and spiders, using its unique jaw structure for crushing. Occasionally, it supplements its diet with plant matter.
Appearance
Common wonder gecko is a small, lizard-like creature with scaly, wrinkled skin. Its main colouration is sandy brown with darker speckles and a light underbelly, which allows it to blend into its desert environment. Common wonder gecko's most distinctive features are its large, closed eyes and its fringe-toed feet. It doesn't have significant appearance changes with age or gender.
Behavior
Common wonder gecko is primarily a solitary, nocturnal creature. This species is adapted to digging intricate burrows for shelter. Within these burrows, they engage in thermo-regulation activities. Displaying territorial behavior, individuals will defensively posture using sounds and strikes to ward off intruders. Their hibernation during colder months is also an adaptive behavior to harsh climates.
