Description
Teratoscincus bedriagai, also known as Bedraiga's wonder gecko or Bedriaga's plate-tailed gecko, is a small species of gecko endemic to Afghanistan and Iran.
General Info
Lifespan
5-8 years
Diet
Bedraiga's wonder gecko primarily feeds on insects, favoring larvae and beetles specifically. Its nocturnal nature influences its feeding patterns, hunting at night when insects are equally active.
Appearance
Bedraiga's wonder gecko is a modestly sized, robustly built gecko with a scaly skin notable for its remarkable camouflage tones of sandy beige to brown. It features a flat body with profound, broad head, round bulbous eyes, short legs, and a short regenerative tail. Its most distinctive feature are its whitish wings-like fringed skin folds on the sides of body and tail, serving for improved desert camouflage.
Behavior
Bedraiga's wonder gecko exhibits nocturnal behavior, typically hunting and foraging for small insects at night. It avoids the harsh, daytime desert heat by burrowing into loose sand. Solitary by nature, it uses chemical signals via anal secretions for communication and territorial marking. Notably, aggressive posturing, including body inflation and tail whipping, is utilized during confrontations.
