The whiskered peccary (Tayassu pecari) is a type of umbilical pig.

Diet
White-lipped peccary exhibits frugivorous tendencies, the bulk of its diet comprising fruits, particularly those of the palm species. It also feeds on leaves, stems, roots, and occasionally small animals, diversifying its dietary resources.
Appearance
White-lipped peccary is a large-bodied animal with a robust and pig-like shape. Adult individuals display dark brown to black fur that's coarse and thick. Distinctive white or pale grey patch found on the throat, lower jaw, and upper chest identifies white-lipped peccary. It possesses a long snout and a small tail. No significant differences are noted between genders, age groups, or subspecies.
Behavior
White-lipped peccary displays highly social behavior, often forming large herds of 50-100 individuals. This species is primarily diurnal, foraging for food, such as cacti, fruits, roots, and the occasional small animal, during the day. Distinctively, white-lipped peccary communicates using strong odours, with individuals marking their territory via glands located near their eyes and back.
