Redbelly snake's diet primarily consists of soft-bodied invertebrates. They display a preference for earthworms and slugs, although they also consume other small arthropods and insects when available.
Appearance
Redbelly snake is a small serpent-like creature, featuring smooth, glossy scales. It primarily exhibits a brown or reddish-brown coloration, with three distinct rows of darker spots running from its head to tail. The snake's ventral side, or belly, is cream-colored. The species shows little or no variation in appearance between ages, genders, or subspecies.
Behavior
Redbelly snake are primarily nocturnal, employing secretive and ground dwelling behaviors. This solitary species is highly secretive, often hiding beneath rocks and logs. It feeds mainly on slugs and earthworms. When threatened, rather than biting, it will release a foul-smelling musk as a defense mechanism.
