Description
Siebenrockiella crassicollis (commonly known as black marsh turtle, smiling terrapin, and Siamese temple turtle, among others) is a freshwater turtle endemic to Southeast Asia. One of the two species classified under the genus Siebenrockiella in the Geoemydidae family.

Black marsh turtle, or the Black marsh turtle, is notably omnivorous with a heavier preference towards an animal-based diet. Its meal typically includes snails, small fish, and various aquatic insects, supplemented occasionally by fruits and aquatic vegetation.
Appearance
With an oval, slightly flattened body shape, black marsh turtle typically have a robust, dark-green carapace often accented by a lighter, almost yellow ventral side. These freshwater turtles possess a broad head and a thick, short neck with rough skin. Unique to the species, males showcase a longer and thicker tail when compared to females. Additionally, younger ones may exhibit more vibrant coloration that fades with maturity.
Behavior
Black marsh turtle is primarily aquatic and nocturnal, spending daylight hours concealed in submerged roots or foliage. This species is omnivorous, consuming a diverse diet including molluscs, crustaceans, and plant matter. Being solitary, their occasional aggressive encounters feature head bobs and gaping mouths. To mark territories, urination and defecation are used predominantly.
