Description
Cleft spiny lizard exhibits fascinating behavioral adaptations in response to its arid environments. This organism has mastered the art of food storage, often accumulating large food reserves to sustain during harsh periods of drought. Additionally, cleft spiny lizard performs a unique thermoregulatory behavior, alternating between exposure to sunlight and seeking shade, to maintain an optimal body temperature, a critical survival tactic in their variable desert habitats.

Diet
Cleft spiny lizard is an insectivorous species, predominantly feeding on arachnids and insects. While spiders constitute a significant portion, ants, termites, beetles, and caterpillars also form part of its varied diet.
Appearance
Cleft spiny lizard is a medium-sized lizard with a long, tapered tail and rough, spiky scales. Its coloration varies widely, ranging from dark brown or black to lighter grey, often with the presence of faint speckles or blotches. Males typically display a blue patch on the abdomen, which is not found in females. As an adaptation to their rocky habitat, these lizards are robust and muscular, particularly noticeable in their robust lower limbs.
Behavior
Cleft spiny lizard exhibits largely solitary and territorial behavior with males frequently defending their territories against other males. Notably, it practices an interesting sun-basking activity for thermoregulation. It is a hibernating species and often resides in rocky substrates for protection and foraging.
