Diet

The dietary habits of tufted capuchin primarily revolve around omnivorous foraging. This includes fruits and invertebrates sustained with occasional small vertebrates, demonstrating a unique flexibility and diversity in their diet.

Appearance

Tufted capuchin is a medium-sized primate with a robust body, long limbs, and prehensile tail. This species possesses coarse, dense fur that predominantly comes in shades of brown or black, sometimes with patches of lighter fur on the chest. They have characteristic tufts of hair at the side of the head and a prominent, bare, black facial mask around the eyes and muzzle. Notably, there aren't significant differences in appearance between ages, genders or subspecies.

Behavior

Tufted capuchin, a skilful forager, employs complex problem-solving techniques in procuring food. Typically social, they establish intricate hierarchies based predominately on age and sex, using expressive facial and body gestures for communication. Tufted capuchin females are notably philopatric, often cohabiting with maternal relatives. In defense, they exhibit intimidating, aggressive displays, including loud vocalizations and branch shaking.
