 The Central American squirrel monkey or red-backed squirrel monkey (Saimiri oerstedii) is a primate species from the group of New World monkeys.

   Diet
 Central american squirrel monkey primarily consumes insects and fruits. Its diet considerably consists of grasshoppers, beetles, and caterpillars. Additionally, it relishes various tropical fruits like figs and palm fruits. 
   Appearance
 The central american squirrel monkey is a small, slim primate with short fur. Its body is covered with a distinctive black and white pelt, highlighted by a reddish-brown to orange-red back, and a white throat and ears. A unique black cap sits on its head. This creature has a long non-prehensile tail, more than twice its body length, and often used for balance. There is no noticeable difference in appearance due to age, gender or subspecies. 
   Behavior
 Central american squirrel monkey are socially oriented primates, typically forming multi-level social structures with cohesive, cooperative groups. They are also highly arboreal, with a preference for primary and secondary forests. Their distinctive survival behavior includes foraging for food in the early morning and late afternoon, primarily feasting on fruits, flowers, and small invertebrates.
