Description
The mustache tamarin (Saguinus imperator) is a primate species from the family of marmosets. It owes its name to the (alleged) similarity of its "mustache" to that of the German emperor Wilhelm II. The epithet imperator was initially intended as a joke, but became a scientifically recognized name.

Diet
Emperor tamarin has an omnivorous diet primarily composed of fruits and insects. Additionally, it consumes bird eggs, small vertebrates, tree resins, and plant exudates, adapting to dietary availability.
Appearance
The emperor tamarin is a small primate with a slender, compact body covered in dense fur. Its most defining characteristics are its white fur mantle, chest and belly, contrasted sharply by black or dark brown fur on the back, legs, and tail. Distinct wide, bare facial patches vary in color from rosy flesh to darker shades. While males and females are similar, the former are slightly larger. The emperor tamarin has a long, non-prehensile tail which enhances balance while navigating trees.
Behavior
Emperor tamarin is a diurnal and arboreal species, spending the bulk of its day foraging for fruit, insects, and small vertebrates. It’s distinguished by its cooperative breeding system, where subordinates assist the dominant pair in raising offspring. Emperor tamarin mark and defend their territories through a series of scent marking and vocalizations.
