Description
The lesser white-lined bat belongs to the genus Saccopteryx and the order Chiroptera. The bat is characterized by white stripes that run longitudinally down its back starting at the shoulders. Its pelage is typically brown and the bats are roughly 45 millimeters in length. Saccopteryx leptura is similar in appearance to Rhynchonycteris naso. R. naso is slightly larger and has darker fur. Additionally, R. naso has white fur on its antebrachium and the S. leptura does not. The lesser white-lined bat also has a characteristic odiferous gland on the distal portion of its arm. The gland opens up to the dorsal part of the wing. This opening is larger in the males than in the females. This species has sexual dimorphism, the female being larger than the male.

Diet
Lesser sac-winged bat is mainly insectivorous, specializing in feeding on flying insects, especially moths. Its nocturnal feeding habits are in synchronization with the peak activities of its primary prey.
Appearance
Lesser sac-winged bat is a small, bat-like mammal with a slender silhouette. It is highlighted by a coat of brown to tawny fur, which is denser on its back. At its rear, it exhibits a tail projection with white markings. As a defining trait, lesser sac-winged bat hosts dermal sacs below its wings that exude a pungent odor. There's minimal variation in appearance across genders and ages.
Behavior
Lesser sac-winged bat are social, nocturnal mammals that roost in colonies, usually in hollow trees or caves. Males demonstrate territorial behaviors by producing scent marks and vocalizing. Intriguingly, they often perform a dusk flight ritual before exiting their roosts to forage. Their flight pattern is slow and direct, which aids in catching insects in mid-air.
