   Diet
Olympic torrent salamander is a carnivorous species that primarily feeds on small aquatic invertebrates. Its diet predominantly consists of mayfly and stonefly nymphs, situating itself as a key predator within its aquatic ecosystem.
   Appearance
Olympic torrent salamander is a small, stout salamander with rough, dark-brown to black skin studded with granular bumps. Sporting four toes on each foot, it possesses a pronounced tail fin for aquatic mobility. Males, identifiable by their larger hind legs and cloacal folds, exhibit a yellowish belly distinct from the female's cream-colored underside. This species lacks any noticeable variation with age or subspecies.
   Behavior
Olympic torrent salamander is nocturnal and secretive, generally found under log or rock cover within its montane freshwater habitat. It has a unique reproductive behavior, with females laying small clutches of eggs in water-saturated substrates, which males guard. Known for its slow metabolism and long lifespan, it exhibits a low locomotion activitiy, remaining static for extended periods, which aids in energy conservation for survival.
