The Cascade torrent salamander (Rhyacotriton cascadae) is a species of salamander in the Rhyacotritonidae family. It is endemic to the United States.

Appearance
Cascade torrent salamander is a small, robust salamander with a rectangular tail and rough, dark olive-brown skin speckled with black patches. Adults range from 2 to 2.75 inches long. Females are often larger, with a slightly bulkier body. All possess four yellow-orange cheek patches and narrow yellow stripes running from their eyes to the rear of the jaw.
Behavior
Cascade torrent salamander is a nocturnal, terrestrial species characterized by its unique parental care, with males guarding eggs in subterranean nests. Preferring characteristics of a solitary living, it displays territorial aggression. Adapted to upland woods, it seeks refuge under logs, displaying specialized camouflage tactics.
