Diet
Sulawesi horseshoe bat's primary food sources are insects, particularly moths and beetles. Using its echolocation abilities, it skillfully locates and feeds on these prey during the night, fulfilling its insectivorous dietary habit.
Appearance
Sulawesi horseshoe bat is a moderate-sized bat, known for its distinctive horse-shaped nose. It has a thick, woolly fur that is greyish-brown on the upper parts and dull white underneath. The wings, largely devoid of fur, are dark brown. The sexes are similar in appearance. This species lacks a tail, but boasts a pair of large, leaf-like ears.
Behavior
Sulawesi horseshoe bat is a nocturnal and solitary animal, predominantly dwelling in caves. Using sophisticated echolocation for foraging, it consumes small insects and arthropods. Although not aggressively territorial, it returns to the same roosting site repeatedly, indicating some territorial fidelity. Unlike other species, it has a unique 'hovering' flight pattern when hunting.
