Description
 The furrowed wood turtle (Rhinoclemmys areolata) is a species of turtle belonging to the Rhinoclemmys genus of the family Geoemydidae found in the Yucatán Peninsula and adjacent regions of Central America.

 Furrowed wood turtle is a herbivorous species predominantly consuming different plant materials. Its diet includes a wide range of fruits, flowers, leaves, and stems, with particular preference for fig fruits and passionflower leaves. 
   Appearance
 Furrowed wood turtle is a medium-sized turtle with a flat and brownish carapace that's often adorned with dark lines or spots. It possesses a small head and a stubby tail, a pointed beak, and strong legs ending in sharp claws. The plastron or lower shell is yellowish and can have various dark markings. No significant differences in appearance exist between males and females, or among different ages and subspecies. 
   Behavior
 Furrowed wood turtle is predominantly a solitaristic animal, exhibiting significant solitary behavior with very limited group interactions. They display crepuscular activities focusing largely on feeding in the dusk and dawn. Furrowed wood turtle is non-migratory and defends its territory through aggressive posturing. Uniquely, their shells provide optimal camouflage assisting in their predator avoidance.
