Diet
In the wild, the dietary habits of spotted poison frog mainly bolster on small invertebrates, with a strong preference for ants and mites. This species, intriguingly, also exhibits a fondness for terrestrial isopods and small-bodied spiders.
Appearance
Spotted poison frog is a diminutive-sized amphibian with a slender and elongated body. Its skin is slick and shines under the light. The dominant color is lime green, juxtaposed with stark black leopard-like spots that accentuate its appearance. Its underbelly is bright teal. The legs reveal darker hues, graced with intricate webbing fit for arboreal navigation. There's no notable sexual dimorphism.
Behavior
Spotted poison frog is a small, arboreal and diurnal amphibian, famed for its parenting behavior. After laying a small clutch of eggs in leaf litter, males guard them until hatching. The females then transport the tadpoles on their back to individual arboreal water-filled depressions, where they continue to provide food until maturation. The territorial disputes in spotted poison frog typically consist of physical displays and vocalization.
