Diet
African rock python is primarily a carnivore, feeding mainly on small to large mammals. Its diet includes animals like rodents, monkeys, and antelopes. The snake seizes prey using its sharp teeth, then constricts it until death.
Appearance
African rock python is a large snake with a heavy body, its length can exceed 6 meters. Its skin is marked with iridescent scales, predominantly olive green to grey, with dark, irregular blotches. Younger individuals may exhibit more contrast in their markings. It doesn't possess any legs or external ears, navigating its environment through its keen sense of smell and detection of vibrations.
Behavior
African rock python is a nocturnal, nonvenomous constrictor, primarily solitary, except during breeding season. This ambush predator lies in wait for prey, then employs a fast, sudden strike. Unusual among snakes, african rock python often eat birds. They show territorial behavior, hissing loudly and striking when threatened. Remarkably, they're also semi-aquatic, often found near water bodies.
