Description

Ptyas fusca, commonly known as the White-bellied Rat Snake or Brown Rat Snake, is a species of colubrid snake. It is found in Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.

Appearance
Brown rat snake is a large, slender snake reaching over 1.5 meters in length. It has smooth, glossy scales, significantly sized eyes, and a pointed head. Its coloration ranges from olive brown to dark gray, often sporting a broad, indistinct yellowish stripe down its body. Note that juvenile snakes exhibit more vibrant colors than mature specimens.
Behavior
Brown rat snake's behavior predominantly manifests as nocturnal and solitary. These arboreal snakes are often found resting coiled in trees during the day, becoming active to hunt at night. Primarily terrestrial, their quick and agile movements facilitate efficient predation on small mammals and reptiles. Their non-aggressive demeanor only shifts to defensively striking when excessively threatened.
