Diet
Eastern brown snake primarily subsists on a diet of small mammals and birds. However, it demonstrates a distinct preference for rodents, sometimes augmented by amphibians and reptiles when available.
Appearance
Eastern brown snake is a slender, medium-sized snake with smooth, polished skin. Its coloration varies broadly, ranging from brown, olive to black, often displaying a series of lighter cross-bands. Younger snakes tend to have more vibrant patterns. Notably, it has a long, tapered tail and fangs. Males and females appear similar, with no distinguished markings between them.
Behavior
Eastern brown snake exhibits solitary, terrestrial habits with a crepuscular activity pattern, becoming active during dawn and dusk. Notable for aggressive defense when threatened, it arches its body before delivering fast, accurate strikes. Adapted to diverse environments, its foraging behavior is mainly rodent-focused. Survival is further assured through venomous defense, a key aspect within its behavioral repertoire.
