Diet
Western brown snake feeds primarily on small mammals, often preferring rodents. Unlike many predators, it’s not opportunistic, instead seeking out specific prey. It also supplements its diet with birds and lizards when available.
Appearance
Western brown snake is a medium-sized snake, with a slender, elongated body covered in smooth, glossy scales. Ranging from light brown to dark grey, the snake has a distinct neck banding pattern. Equipped with a rounded head and potent fangs, the only significant difference in appearance among individuals is based on geographical location and not age or gender.
Behavior
Western brown snake demonstrates a solitary and highly territorial behavior, often staying within a specific range and defending itself using its venomous bite. Notably known for preying on small mammals, birds, and reptiles, this species has an adaptive technique of subduing its prey with a fast strike. It is a diurnal creature, most active in the warmer months.
