Diet
Lesser swimming frog is predominantly a carnivorous species that feeds heavily on small, aquatic invertebrates. Its dietary habits center around the consumption of insects, including larvae and small crustaceans, which contribute to its nourishment and survival.
Appearance
Lesser swimming frog is a very small frog, reaching a length of just 2 cm. It has relatively smooth skin with a notable dark green hue that helps it blend with its environment. The belly of this species is lighter, often yellowish or cream. This tiny amphibian does not have any horns, wings or unique features except its disproportionately large hind legs, which it uses for robust leaps. No significant differences are noted between males, females or different age groups.
Behavior
Lesser swimming frog is an aquatic species known for its unique 'paradoxical' lifestyle. Its tadpoles are significantly larger than adult individuals, a distinct trait within amphibians. These solitary creatures are nocturnal, with predominant activities of foraging and exploration happening during the night. Lesser swimming frog generally communicates through acoustic signals, demonstrating a high degree of territoriality. Its small size aids in survival and camouflage in dense vegetation within its native habitats.
