Diet
Western psammodromus exhibits a primarily insectivorous diet, with a significant preference for arthropods. Predominantly, its diet involves beetles, spiders, and small insects, highlighting a natural propensity for smaller prey.
Appearance
Western psammodromus is a small, slender lizard covered in fine, rough scales. It has a notable dorsal stripe that varies from white to yellow, with scattered brown spots. Apart from this, the body is predominantly dark grey with a lighter underbelly. Males have slightly more pronounced blue throat patches during the breeding season. This species normally lacks any form of horn, wings, or unusual tail structures.
Behavior
Western psammodromus is a predominantly terrestrial species, diurnal in nature with highest activity levels during warm weather conditions. Early morning basking is characteristic for thermoregulation. It displays solitary tendencies, except during mating season. Distinctive running and zigzag evasion tactics, coupled with its cryptic coloration, provide effective survival tactics in its arid habitat.
