Description

The pottok holds a distinctive position in equine breeds, originating from the Basque Country in Spain. Remarkably, they have remained relatively unchanged, largely due to their isolation in the Pyrenees mountains. These hardy animals display impressive agility, often utilized in competitive equestrian sports. Highly adaptable, they effortlessly transition from rugged mountainous environments to softer lowland pastures, making them versatile for a range of farming and recreational uses.

Appearance

The pottok is a small and sturdy horse, typically standing between 11.1 and 14.2 hands high. It exhibits a compact and robust body with a well-proportioned neck, hardy limbs, and a full mane and tail of the same color as the body. Common coat colors range from solid black, bay to chestnut, but white markings on the face and below the knees may occur. As the pottok ages, it may develop white speckles across its quarters. The eyes are usually dark, adding a gentle yet expressive element to its appearance.

Pottok is known for its good-natured temperament and docility, making it an excellent companion animal.
