Diet
File-eared tree frog predominantly consumes a diet rich in insects, with a particularly high preference for moths and beetles. This nocturnal creature also occasionally feeds on smaller amphibians when available.
Appearance
File-eared tree frog is a medium-sized frog with a bumpy skin texture. Males display a brown to dark brown coloration, while females are predominantly green. This frog is distinguished by a bony ridge, called a 'supratympanal fold', adjacent to each eye. This feature, more prominent in males, is rough, jagged and contrasts with their otherwise smooth skin. Males also possess a vocal sac for producing mating calls.
Behavior
File-eared tree frog are nocturnal tree-dwelling amphibians that primarily exhibit solitary behaviors. They utilize a distinctive breeding call to attract mates during the rainy season. Notable for their arboreal egg-laying habits, these species attach floating foam nests to branches above water bodies for successful reproduction.
