The yellow-spotted Amazon river turtle or yellow-spotted river turtle (Podocnemis unifilis) is one of the largest South American river turtles. It can grow up to 45Â cm long and weigh up to 8Â kg. Appearance
Yellow-spotted river turtle is a medium to large freshwater turtle distinguished by an elongated, smooth shell that is predominantly black with blurred yellow streaks. Females are much larger than males. Its skin is dark, often with greenish tones. Notably, it has a pointed snout and large side-necked feature, creating a unique silhouette. With age, some individuals may develop paler coloration.
Behavior
Yellow-spotted river turtle is a mostly solitary species with unique mating rituals, including a series of courtship behaviors in water.
