Description
The Italian wall lizard, ruin lizard, or Ä°stanbul lizard (Podarcis sicula from the Greek meaning 'agile' and 'feet') is a species of lizard in the family Lacertidae. P. sicula is native to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, France, Italy, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia and Switzerland, but has also been introduced to Spain, Turkey, and the United States. P. sicula is the most abundant lizard species in southern Italy.

Appearance
Italian wall lizard is a small, slender lizard with a scaly skin. It sports a bright green back, mixed with shades of brown and grey, often interrupted by darker variegated spots. A yellow marking on the throat is also distinctive, especially among males. Males and younger individuals typically show brighter colors compared to females and older lizards. Its lithe body is accompanied with a long tail, which can be regenerated if lost.
Behavior
Italian wall lizard is an diurnal, territorial species that displays distinctive head-bobbing signals during social interactions. It tends to live solitarily, as opposed to group living. Predominantly insectivorous, it partakes in precise, stealthy foraging techniques for survival, and exhibits strong site fidelity, returning to the same micro-habitats repeatedly.
