Diet

Larch mountain salamander primarily subsists on a diet of small invertebrates, with a marked preference for arthropods, specifically beetles and spiders. This species is also known for feeding on various types of mites, amphipods, and snails.

Appearance

Larch mountain salamander is a small, salamander-like creature with a slender, cylindrical body and smooth, moist skin. Its primary coloration is a dark, earthy brown, often sprinkled with lighter blotches. Its underbelly is typically paler. Most remarkable are its broad head, large eyes, and layers of folds along its sides. No significant differences are attributed to age or gender variations.

Behavior

Larch mountain salamander is a largely solitary creature with nocturnal habits, emerging from its underground refuge at night to hunt for invertebrate prey. The species exhibits seasonal movement, descending into deeper soils during drying trends. It communicates using tactile and chemical signals, with males displaying territorial behavior during the breeding season. It does not demonstrate defensive tactics, but relies on its cryptic coloration for survival.
