Diet
Chattahoochee slimy salamander is an insectivorous species, feeding predominantly on small invertebrates. It demonstrates a particular fondness for termites, beetles, and spiders. Lack of light influences its feeding behavior, making it chiefly nocturnal.
Appearance
Chattahoochee slimy salamander is a medium-sized salamander with smooth skin and a slender body. It is dark-colored, ranging from grayish-brown to black, often with mottled, coppery markings on the back and sides. The underbelly is usually lighter. The species is characterized by a rounded snout and tail, and possesses no external ears or claws. There is little variation in appearance between genders and life stages.
Behavior
Chattahoochee slimy salamander is predominantly nocturnal, spending most days hidden away in moist terrestrial habitats. It forages for insects and other invertebrates during the night. Known for solitary living, any inter-species interaction is usually aggression involving territorial disputes. It employs a tail-waving deterrent against predators to survive in its environment.
