   Diet
Broad-headed skink is an insectivorous species that primarily feeds on spiders, beetles, and caterpillars. Its diet may occasionally encompass fruit and seeds, showing an opportunistic feeding behavior.
   Appearance
The broad-headed skink is a medium-sized skink with a robust body and smooth, shiny scales. Males have a strikingly vibrant, blue tail while females often sport a greyer, faded color. Adults exhibit a dark brown to nearly black dorsal color with faintly visible darker crossbands, while juveniles glow with bright blue tails and black bodies with white or yellow stripes. The broad-headed skink has a characteristic broad head, which aids in identification.
   Behavior
Broad-headed skink is a solitary reptile with exceptional burrowing abilities which it uses for shelter and hunting insects in its native habitats. Known for 'autotomy', an unusual defensive behavior, it detaches its tail when threatened to confuse predators. Though predominantly diurnal, this species becomes nocturnal during hot weather. It is highly territorial, defending its home with aggressive posturing.
