Appearance
Ornate burrowing frog is a medium-sized frog with a typically stocky body, measuring 30-45mm in length. Its skin can be a variety of shades, including brown, green and yellow, and often features darker, contrasting markings. On its back, there are usually warts forming longitudinal rows. Adult males, distinguishable by larger forearms and a dark throat, emit a distinct, melodious call. Its hind legs are robust for effective jumps in its predominantly terrestrial habitat.
Behavior
Ornate burrowing frog is primarily a nocturnal species displaying social behavior, often found congregating on walls or foliage. It communicates by stridulation, a unique scraping sound made by rubbing the wings together. While territorial, it doesn't aggressively mark or defend its territory. Its behavior of camouflage during the day increases its survival chances from predators.
