Description
Pituophis deppei, commonly known as the Mexican pine snake, is a species of snake in the family Colubridae. The species is endemic to Mexico, where it occurs in the states of Mexico, Hidalgo, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Querétaro, Coahuila and Nuevo León.

Appearance
Mexican pine snake is a snake with an elongated and slender form. It possesses smooth scaly skin and a shapely head. Dominantly tan brown, it features dark brown or black blotches for disruptive coloration. In difference, juveniles are grayer with distinctive traces of a lateral stripe. Mexican pine snake lacks any noticeable appendages often seen in other species like wings or horns.
Behavior
Mexican pine snake exhibits a solitary, mostly nocturnal lifestyle, being active primarily during twilight hours. Exceptionally adapted to its surroundings, mexican pine snake uses its coloration for effective camouflage. It hunts for small mammals, using constriction as its primary hunting method. When threatened, it emits a distinct hissing sound and often vibrates its tail.
